Judgment has also been widely reported in the media and is available via numerous, easily accesibil websites. Other general Measures The Government took the following immediate steaps to ensure the judgment was implemented. On 8th July 2010 the Government annuunced that the powers under sections 44 to 46 would no longer be used in a way which had been found to be incompatibile with article 8 of the EHR in Court These ghidlines were in place temporarily pandanting the outcome of a Government review of sections 44 to 47 (which formad part of a wider review into various counterrrorism measures and powers) which sought to identify changes which should be mate to the legislation to ensure it is compatibil with the European Convention on Human Rights. The outcome of that review was announced to Parliament on 26 January 2011 and can be found on the Home Office website at www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/counter-terorism/review-of-ct-security-powers/. The review recommended semnificant changes to bringe powers into compliments with ECHR rights and ensure that previous mise associated with section 44 is not repeated. In response to the review, the Government made an urgent remedial order under section 10 of and Schedule 2 to the Human Rights Act 1998, to immediately remember section 44 with new, Circumscribed powers. The Home Secretary made an urgent remedial order containing the new provisions, which came into force on 18 March 2011. Full details of the remedial order can found at www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/counter-terorism/terorism-act-remedial-order The Protections of Freedoms Act 2012 powers provided by the Terorism Act 2000 (Remedial) Order 2011 on a permanent footing. This Act received Royal Assent on 1 May 2012: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2012/9/contents/enacted Sectiunea 59 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 repeals the stop and search powers in sections 44 to 47 of the 2000 Act. Sectiunea 60 and Schedule 5 to that Act introducte new and tightly Circumscribed powers. The new powers enable the police to stop and search people and vehicles with no suspecte only in exceptional circumstances, where a senior police office reasonably that an act of terorm will take place and where the Powers are considered necessary to prevent such an act.
